For the aspiring hockey player, the Ice & Golf Center offer Hockey Skating Skills. This 8 week class runs once a week on Wednesdays 5:15-5:45 PM (Hockey 1) 5:45-6:15 PM (Hockey 2) or Saturdays 10:15-10:45 AM (Hockey 1) 10:45-11:15 AM (Hockey 2). Designed to help your hockey player learn the basics of skating before attempting to play. You can't play if you can't skate. This program is offered to all ages, and is a prerequisite for Youth or Adult Learn To Play Hockey classes. 
 

Skaters will be evaluated the first day of class to make sure they are in the correct level. Coaches may move the skater to a different level if necessary.

Class Curriculum

Hockey I: Sit & stand up, proper stance, march across ice, forward two foot glide, scooter pushes, dip or squat, forward swizzles, snowplow stop, and backward skating.  

Hockey II: Backward stance, skating forward using full stride, backward hustle, backward swizzles, glide turns (both directions), moving snowplow stops.

Hockey III: Forward C-cuts on circle (left & right), hockey turns with speed (left & right), forward slalom, forward stops & starts, backward v stops, lateral marching crossovers (left & right).

Hockey IV: Forward one foot pushes (left & right), forward crossover glides, crossovers (left & right), alternating backward C-cuts, backward one foot glides (left & right), mohawks, hockey stop.

Adult Hockey I: Proper stance, march across ice, forward two foot glide, scooter pushes, forward swizzles, snowplow stop, backward skating & stance, forward strides, forward one foot glides, backward hustle, backward swizzles, glide turns, moving snowplow stops.

Adult Hockey II: Forward C-cuts, hockey turns, forward slalom, backward V stop, lateral marching, forward one foot pushes, forward glides and crossovers, alternating backward C-cuts, backward one foot glides, mohawks, hockey stop.
